Nick Kyrgios in the News Again

Controversial Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios is once again making rounds on the internet. The recent surge in Kyrgios’s popularity has come after the 26-year old berated netizens for comparing him to Australian Bernard Tomic.

The tennis star has maintained his controversial demeanor and style on the internet during the current pandemic and hasn’t shied away from throwing jibes at fellow stars.

Nick Kyrgios is once again making waves on social media after a rant at people comparing him to fellow Australian Bernard Tomic.

The 26-year-old has been a controversial figure on social media throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, and he wasn’t reluctant to air his views once again after the perceived slight.

“I got compared with Bernard Tomic today and I’ve never felt more insulted,” Kyrgios wrote.

Does he have a foundation? Does he have the accomplishments? Did he raise money for the bushfires? It’s disgusting, man.

Do your research. Oh and by accomplishments I mean beating the big 4 [in reference to wins over Roger Federer, Rafa Nadal, Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic].”

The tennis star has also confirmed his presence in the ATP Mallorca Championships at the Calvia Country Club from June 19-26. Nick’s presence in the tournament was confirmed by tournament organizer Toni Nadal in a recent interview.

Nadal went on to speak about the importance of players like Kyrgios in the tournament and how they increase viewership.

He is well-known all around the world, and he guarantees a spectacle,” Nadal said.

Let’s hope he meets [Mallorcan] Jaume [Munar] in the final.

In more news, tennis legend Rod Laver has called for Nick Kyrgios to be suspended from the ATP tour on the basis of the consistently bad behavior he has displayed. The 26-year-old Kyrgios has, on multiple occasions, shown signs of outburst during games and set a very poor example for kids watching the game.

Whatever they have done hasn’t worked so far, so maybe a suspension is the only answer,” Rod Laver told The Sydney Morning Herald in a recent interview.

I’m not sure he’s learned anything from any of the things that have gone on.”

Nick is Nick, unfortunately,” Laver said. “He could have been, or still could become, a world champion because of his serving ability, his game.

John McEnroe Backs Serena in Row with Dominic Thiem

John McEnroe, the ‘self-appointed commissioner of Tennis,’ has come to the defense of Serena Williams over the incident that happened in a post match press conference at the French Open.

Dominic Thiem, the Austrian world number 4, was booted outside of the press room when Serena Williams walked into the press room for her interview.

Thiem was extremely furious at being asked to step out of the press room for Serena, and said that the American star had a very bad personality. McEnroe was not happy with this situation and decided to share his thoughts on the matter.

McEnroe, in a recent interview, has mentioned that he thinks the whole scenario has been blown out of proportion by those in the media.

It also gives me an opportunity to show how easy it is to engineer fake news and manipulate people’s opinions. Fact: Dominic Thiem was kicked out of the main press room in the middle of his media duties to make way for Serena Williams. Fact: Thiem was less than pleased about it. With these two facts, the social media public court was quick to deliver a verdict: “How can she do that? Does she have no shame? Who does she think she is?” ‘It was not only the usual hateful trolls who voiced their discontent. In fact, the mainstream media started to weigh in on it. See, there is something on the internet and they immediately start to report on it and voice an opinion. Yes, an opinion! Whatever happened to the fundamental rule of journalism? Three independent sources should confirm the fact, and then – only then – can you report on it,” said McEnroe during a recent interview.

He went on to say, “but here’s the problem: They didn’t have all their facts straight. Little known but true fact: Serena Williams had actually asked for a smaller room so that she could be done with it. But somehow the organizers insisted she hold the press conference in the main room where Thiem was at the time. ‘A smaller room was available because that’s where Thiem ended up. When Serena was made aware that they had to move the Austrian to make room for her she was heard saying: “Whoah, that’s rude!” Yes it was. See this is not a tiny detail. It changes the whole f***ing story. Serena’s not a diva who can’t wait two minutes. She’s the victim of a screw up by the organization, and so is Thiem. ‘I know a lot of journalists who should eat a good slice of humble pie after this one.”

The facts by McEnroe appear dodgy and not in congruence with what was the reality. Williams did not want to be sent into a second conference room, she wanted to be in the area where Dominic Thiem was holding his press conference. She even told a tournament official that ‘woah you’re very rude’ when he asked her to shift rooms.

The only victim here is Dominic Thiem, and he needs justice. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wFYkgpC8UCE

Tennis Federation: Ignorant or Amoral?

Either the Tennis Federation is highly corrupt, or it lacks the ability to judge. Either way, it surely does a pathetic job.

Tennis Federation

Banning players is much like a hobby in tennis. The federation needs no reason to keep a player from featuring in a match. A recent “victim” was Sara Errani, an Italian tennis player. She conveniently took drugs to elevate her clearly pitiful performance in the court. Here’s the funny part: when caught, she blamed her mother’s home-made tortellini!

Yes, according to Sara, the drug found in her tests was apparently an ingredient of her mother’s secret recipe. The perplexing end of the story comes next, when the Tennis Federation considers it an honest mistake and applies a meager ban of two months on the player.

For context, the drug that was apparently an ingredient of Sara’s mother’s tortellini, is actually letrozole. It is used to treat breast cancer, and to enhance muscle tissue growth in female bodybuilders. The tennis federation somehow doesn’t have a clue. The investigation department at this Federation clearly has some people that need to be let go of, of course for the stellar job they have done in investigating Sara’s case.

The Italian player and former World’s Number 5 will be back in two months, more like an unplanned vacation for her after getting off the hook with a dope excuse.

Nick Kyrgios Curses the Chair Umpire and a Spectator

Nick Kyrgios

Nick Kyrgios hits the front pages once again, starts cursing people.

Marseille Open might not be an elite league, but it certainly does not allow players to show rage on the pitch. The Aussie certainly fails to comprehend that.

The 21-year old was giving it his all while trying to overturn the match. He was a set behind and was on the brink of his next serve when he snapped at a fan for ruining his focus. Politely telling the spectator to “shut the f* up” is not the best way to silence the fans.

Well, at least he did come to overturn the potential defeat into a win and saved himself from further embarrassment. To add more spice, Nick—after winning the match—mockingly started waving at a bunch that kept muttering one thing after the other during the match. The vocal supporters of Nick’s opponent Sela did not have much to boast about then.

Nick Kyrgios always brings a bit of drama to his matches. In fact, he even stretches the drama to post-match Twitter duels. When the insulted spectators demanded an apology from Nick on Twitter, “LOL, man up” was his reply!
